| Shaping the Future: Values and Value in Australasian University Residential Accommodation 23 – 26 September 2007 Sofitel Brisbane, Turbot St, Brisbane My name is Hugh Begbie. I am Principal of Cromwell College at the University of Queensland and Chair of the organizing committee for the AHAUCHI conference this year. I warmly invite you to familiarize yourself with the program and register for the conference as soon as you can. Personally, I hope to get out of the conference a chance, not only to learn about things, but more importantly to reflect on why I do what I do and how my leadership is informed by the values and beliefs I hold. Some people have observed that we have not asked for member papers this year. The reason is that we have targeted a variety of Heads to give various responses over the course of the week giving insight into what makes them lead the way they do. We have also invited some current and ex-residents to reflect on the impact of College (and our leadership) on their lives. Some who were new Heads at recent conferences have commented that little opportunity is given to hear personal input from those more experienced. Inviting Heads in different parts of the county to offer personal insight into why and how they deal with the young people under their care is also aimed at addressing this concern. Brisbane is a lovely city in spring. The nights are cool to mild but the days warm. You will also enjoy your visits to the beautiful St Lucia Campus. Can I commend the conference to you, encourage you to come and invite you to bring your Deputy or Dean as well. Warmest regards, |
